Yesterday I completed a series of financial literacy workshops for a local nonprofit that focuses on helping formerly incarcerated men get back on their feet and take control of their futures. As I reflected on the lesson shared I came up with a phrase I intend on incorporating into my vocabulary—Economic warfare—.
I knew throughout the series that they were paying attention. They asked questions, related scenarios to their own experiences, and even shared bits and pieces of their lives with me.
I’d be lying if I said that they didn’t occasionally get distracted though.
For the final class I really wanted to make sure that the concepts and ideas I had shared with them around:
wants vs needs,
values & goals,
income vs expenses,
creating a budget,
assets & liababilities,
networth,
credit,
debt,
identify theft,
and more,
didn’t just fly out the door with me when I left — this was it!
