Dear friend & subscriber,
Last week we celebrated Thanksgiving or rather ahem Indigenous People’s Day.
While I’d usually take this opportunity to discuss the barbaric nature of the holidays origins, I want to focus in this moment on what the day is supposed to represent,
GRATITUDE.
Yes, gratitude that starts with YOU and your readership over these last two years. Whether you subscribed today or back in October of 2022, I’m grateful you are here.
Gratitude that extends into my stumbling into the space of financial therapy and nestling within the niche of financial trauma.
Gratitude that has carried me over almost 4 years of entrepreneurship and nearly 15 years in financial services.
(I promise you I am not buttering you up for some Black Weekend or Cyber Monday Sale)
It’s because of you, and readers like you that this Substack has literally helped to change my life.
I don’t say that lightly either -
This Substack has contributed to my becoming a Forbes contributor.
This Substack has contributed to my winning two Plutus Awards (People’s Choice and Best New Personal Finance Content Written).
This Substack has contributed to my winning the 2024 Outstanding Consumer Financial Information Award.
This Substack has contributed to me securing a book deal with Wiley publishing (tentative release date is 11/12/25).
Over the last two years specifically this Substack has helped promote my brand and business in ways I could not imagine and the success is not only attributed to my excellent writing ability (although it certainly helps haha) but also the people who choose to read, share, and celebrate what I discuss in this niche topic of financial trauma.
So THANK YOU for being here.
Right now I’m in the midst of getting my head wrapped around the idea that in exactly a year I will be a traditionally published author with Wiley, while also celebrating the 5 year anniversary of my second and current flagship book “Financially Irresponsible”.
What a ride it’s been!
While I transition this newsletter over to paid I will also be making an intentional effort to share bits and pieces of my journey as a writer with you from how I run my Substack, to how I wrote my first self published book, to the process of writing for a publishing house. Of course I’ll continue to write about my learnings and musings related to financial trauma and overall financial wellness. I’ll also be merging and dissolving the “Money Systems University” Substack that you may or may not be a subscriber to in the coming weeks as well.
The goal - maximum focus on this 3x award winning Substack and its growth to our first major milestone of 10,000 subscribers.
I’m looking forward to continuing to share with you, learn from you, and getting to know you and your needs from me and this publication.
For now, I have to finish reading and annotating the first book of reference material titled: “The Body Keeps The Score”.
Let me know if you’ve read it and what you think.
Cheers,

Congratulations!! I am so happy to see your rising success. Heck yeah! I have that book marked up and weathered. The Body Keeps the Score is an excellent book.
