How Do I Think In Abundance When Bills Are Due?
If you're an entrepreneur you'll want to stay for this
I’m sure this isn’t a feeling that’s foreign.
I know that I’ve personally felt this way many times—especially after leaving corporate America—. It’s almost insulting to think that someone could remain seemingly optimistic in face of an empty bank account.
…and that’s the real challenge. Truly understanding that “abundance” is not material wealth or something that someone can give you (or take away). Abundance is recognizing that there is a never-ending stream of possibilities to fill your plate spiritually, mentally, and eventually physically.
I often use an example from my childhood experiences with poverty where a teacher introduced me to the stock market. Admittedly I didn’t truly grasp or understand it beyond the scope of “that’s what rich people do”, but beneath the layers of limiting beliefs was also real life situations that dictated what I ate, when I ate, or if I ate at all. How then could I consider beyond fantasies that investing in the stock market was even an option for me when I had no idea if I’d be able to eat that day?
Fast forward to today and I find myself in a similar predicament. Thinking about how to embrace abundance when I’ve got bills due and my invoices haven’t cleared yet—or don’t exist. My dog needs food or my gas tank is empty or the only thing in my cabinets is dry beans and pasta.
Even though “past performance does not guarantee future results” one thing I know to be true is that I survived then and I continue to survive today. If that’s not abundance enough then no amount of money ever will be.
Learning to navigate a world where so much value is placed on a symbol (dollar) or belief while simultaneously believing in a currency that has no material representation (abundance) makes it easy for you to conflate dollars with abundance and difficult to draw clear lines of separation.
Here’s another exercise:
Inhale and hold your breath for as near to 30 seconds as you can, then exhale and express gratitude (speak it or write it) for being able to fill your lungs with breath.
Do the same thing for the sounds, sights, smells, tastes, sensations or heat or cool, etc that you experience throughout the day. Your ability to read this post is an example of abundance. Slowly learn to untether in your mind that abundance is monetary and soon you’ll recognize that abundance is all around you. That yes, the bills might be due but it is well within you power to do something to pay or eliminate those bills.
Abundance is recognizing that every outcome is possible and that you simply have to choose the one that best suits you.
