How are you honoring the previous versions of yourself?
I open up my TEDx talk by saying...
"When I was 5 years old I wanted to be an architect"
"When I was 10, I wanted to be a psychologist."
"When I was 12, I wanted to be a psychiatrist, because they made more money"
Shaun Maslyk, helped me realize that in some ways the current version of myself is honoring those younger versions of myself in what I do today.
I'm sort of an architect just instead of building and designing buildings I build and design communities... I've been called a "social architect" ironically because of this.
I check off the boxes I wanted to check off with psychology and psychiatry by helping people navigate their feelings and mindset around money. I started as a coach in an unregulated space and now I pursue the AFC® designation which has a heavy focus on clinical and research based methods of financial counseling.
Some may consider where I've ended up as a deviation from my interests as a child, but reframing the way we look at those interests...I've realized that I'm actually exactly where I'm supposed to be.
What did you want to be as a child? Is the current version of you honoring those interests today?
Personal check in: The more things come together, the more they fall apart it seems! I recently loss my most consistent and largest income stream. My initial reaction was to panic but since I’m living and breathing this financial trauma content I decided to take my own advice and be thankful for what I’ve been able to accomplish and get to work in replacing those income streams. Offering my services as a financial coach and counselor, doing more freelance writing and social media management, working on my podcast, providing consultations, etc. I’m keeping hope alive yall!
This week was a big week in social media for me. An episode I recorded with Shaun Maslyk went live yesterday for his podcast. It’s a great conversation about my journey with some powerful questions and equally powerful answers. You can visit the episode here:
Yesterday I got a HUGE shoutout by Berna Anat (Hey Berna) on her social media platforms and her YouTube where she breaks down financial trauma. The full video is here and I urge you to check it out!
