Before I sat down almost a year ago to create this publication I went on a trip to Denver, CO to participate as a speaker at the Financial Therapy Association’s annual conference. The title of my talk was “Financial Trauma: How to define it and Its Impact on financial education for People of Color”.
I remember being in awe of all the academics and practitioners at the conference and feeling very much at home. After the conference my good friend
In less than a year I’ve grown my Substack substantially as a way to direct my passions for addressing financial trauma in a way that was not limited or censored based on editorial guidelines or some form of political correctness. I’ve since leveraged the publication to become a contributor for Forbes, to cover currenet events and trending activity, and to provide actionable tips and advice for people currently struggling with money trauma through the lens of my lived experience and formal education.
Today I’m proud to say that in less than a year we’ve become an award nominated publication as well. Under the annual Plutus Awards, “Overcoming Financial Trauma” has been nominated for:
Best New Personal Finance Content
Best Current Events Coverage
I’m truly grateful for everyone who has subsribed, taken the time to read, and even share my publication with others. This nomination gives me pulse check on the impact of my work and provides encouragement that even when you don’t think anyone is watching, they are. Thank you for being part of the journey.
